DHIRUBHAI AMBANI Dhirubhai Ambani was an Indian business magnate and founder of Reliance Industries, one of the largest conglomerates in India. He was born on December 28, 1932, in Chorwad, a small village in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, India. His father was a school teacher and his mother was a homemaker. Ambani's early years were spent in poverty, and he had to work hard to support his family. He completed his schooling in Chorwad and then moved to Aden, Yemen to work as a clerk at A. Besse & Co., a trading firm. He worked there for several years and gained valuable experience in the field of international trade. In 1958, Ambani returned to India and started his own business, Reliance Commercial Corporation, which dealt in textiles and other goods.
